marisol i hate you kys- her act didn't fool me at all she's fake inside & out just like her snake of a mother

the mystery was so intruiging. i didn’t expect for apollo’s brother to be the one to poison apollo and the fact that he’s still alive?? just wow. there also wasn’t much world building for this book given that it takes place in the same universe as caraval. although i did enjoy caraval, i appreciate the fact that she didn’t build up the world like caraval. this helped differentiate the world despite the fact that it takes place in the same universe. i absolutely adored this universe. it was just so magical and enchanted. the curses, the potions, the prophesies, and true love being the end all be all. my hopelessly romantic heart was living for this. Stepping Into the North didn’t just feel like the start of something, it felt like the start of everything”💫 For as long as she can remember, Evangeline Fox has believed in happily ever after. Until she learns that the love of her life is about to marry another, and her dreams are shattered.I'm totally in love, and I have I idea what to do with my life. HOW CAN I PRETEND MY HEART ISN'T BREAKING IN REAL TIME? i believe there are far more possibilities than happily ever after or tragedy. every story has the potential for infinite endings.' I'll never comprehend humans.” Poison sighed. “All of you seem to welcome our lies, but you never like it when we tell the truth.”

I don’t think you and I have the same definition of hurt.” “Be thankful for that, Little Fox … hurt is what made me.” I loved the writing so much. Despite of not liking Caraval as much as I would've loved to, I did like the writing because somehow it felt magical. I really loved the soft descriptions of places, feelings, colors, etc. Those steamy scenes really did make up for them because oh hollyyyyy nighhhhttttt- I was drenched in sweat.A dazzling mix of mystery, romance, and magic’ Karen M. McManus, #1 New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying

i think that the guilt aspect of this book wasn’t bad. there wasn’t any repetition and it isn’t mentioned constantly or anything which definitely shows character development since she’s written caraval. i appreciated the way that evangeline’s emotions were portrayed bc i loved it. it wasn’t spectacular or anything but it definitely was far from bad. i felt like there wasn’t much drama in this book. this book made me remember that my answer to the age old question, “if you could live in any fictional world, which one would it be?” is the world of caraval. The first book in a new series about love, curses, and the lengths that people will go to for happily ever after. The MC was just as expected. Annoying and very kind. I suppose I should've started with kind, but ugh, her decisions made me question if I was actually as dumb as I thought. Hi, hello, my name's Evangeline and I have like, pink hair and like, let's just free my ex from the clutches of a supernatural creature and like, pretend he's not going to kill me or anything. Oh! And pretend he loved me as much as I loved him, so I could pray to a vicious Fate in return of making Luc with Luve love me again. And also, I truly believe in love at first sight. It was fast paced and the plot was good, tbh. It kept me glued to my seat reading, reading and reading... I didn't even care about anything else. About this book I loved EVERYTHING. The plot, the writing, the characters, the little plot twists, but what I loved more was this fairytale vibe that completely enchanted me. Evangeline, as a protagonist and narrator, frustrated me endlessly. She’s insanely naïve, always trusting people she shouldn’t and wanting to help Marisol (her stepsister) when it’s very obvious that a) her sister is shady and up to no good and b) she generally has no reason to. The two of them have next to no relationship, but because Evangeline is so Wonderful and Perfect and Special Because She Has Pink Hair, of course she has to want to help. She’s also a very passive character: things happen to her, not because of her. Now, I know what you’re probably thinking: “Characters are allowed to be naïve! It’s part of their growth!” or “Characters are allowed to be nice! They don’t all have to be sword-wielding assassins or (insert other character trope here)”. Trust me, I hear you, but there’s a difference between those characters and Evangeline Fox. All stories are made of both truths and lies, she used to say. What matters is the way we believe them.”

Unto the characters because my peace of mind has been on edge lately and I have to exorcise them from my memory. All but one, of course. I liked the Bell.

Bruh, nuh-uh. I can stand you being all whiny because of Luc, I truly understood half of what you were feeling. But you were expecting a PRINCE, to fall for you, (and no, I don't mean Prince of Hearts) just because of a kiss? Technically he did, but that's not what I mean- Do I believe she could've been a smarter, better MC? Absolutely. However, she was actually pretty nice at times and I liked her for the majority of the story. Yes, I'm aware I contradicted myself. It's part of my charm, *snort*. He held on to her as if she were a grudge, his body rigid ad tense, as if he really didn't want her there, and yet his arms were tight around her waist as though he had no intention of ever letting her go.” The fates weren’t dangerous because they were evil; the fates were dangerous because they couldn’t tell the difference between evil and good.” Evangeline became easily one of my favourite fmc ever. She is not a fighter, she is not ruthless, she is not the underdog that rises from nothing. She is a girl who believes in infinite happy endings, oddities and is curious about what is going on around her. She is what a 17 yo should be and more. She thought that her first love was THE LOVE and couldn’t pass her own heartbreak. People called it falling out of love, but falling was easy. She’d clawed her way out, fighting to shake it off, to let it go, to find something else to hold on to.”
