About this deal

Hi, We have recently moved to a new house . The kitchen is fairly new, however, they have an 60cm induction hob and I want to... In short, yes, you can fit a gas hob into a worktop or similar yourself, however, this does not include connecting it up. Only a competant person with the correct testing equipment is allowed to do that! I can't understand your problem, if the cut out is the right size for the appliance then the information from the techies is good. Wet your applicator with the grout sealer, and begin wiping the liquid into the grout lines. If you are sealing both horizontal and vertical surfaces, start with the vertical tile.

This seal sits underneath your electric hob to keep it secured into place. If the gasket around your hob has torn, damaged or become loose, don't put up with it, replace it with eSpares. This genuine spare gasket from Gorenje can soon be applied to get your old hob working like new again. Pencil marks are hard to follow when there is a lot of fine sawdust about. Additionally, don’t forget to wear a dust mask! After he left I was getting it square and trying to remove the excess foam. I noticed the problem described above where the stainless cover wasn't sitting down onto the worktop. The clamps only have so much pull and they're on the corners and the chassis flexes against the foam. which silicon is not really designed for. Secondly, and this might include some sink units, the bottom edge of the fitment is thin, and the weight of the fitment on fresh silicon(moreso if screwed down) would tend to pull the fitment right down to the worktop, thus destroying the intended seal. Nothing should be fitted in this “Hot Zone”. This includes any plugs, kitchen units or anything else that could burn or melt.Formulated for both interior and exterior use, you can also use this sealer to protect outdoor tiled surfaces on patios or around swimming pools.

There is a hot zone immediately above the cooker or hob where there should be nothing fixed, including extractor hood, for 760mm. Either side there is a zone of 150mm where there should be nothing fixed up to a height of 460mm. Extending to the rear, if fitted into a worktop you should leave 50mm. Don’t assume that just because the gas hob or the connection hose is brand new that it can’t possibly leak. Defects can occur during manufacture and also things can get damaged during storage and transport. Drop the hob down onto the sealing strips and tighten the clips. It’s now time to call the gas fitter; you can find a local fitter here. I just fitted a ceramic hob into a new worktop, and the only sealing supplied was a very narrow adhesive foam strip. It is far smaller than the recess on the underside of the edge of the hob.Hi, we recently got an electric hob installed on top of a worktop, but the kitchen fitter did not seal it. I also believe the hole made for the hob has not been made large enough, which is why the hob is raised. Please let me know what sealant to use and if the hole for the hob needs to be made bigger. A very common size is 600mm wide by 500mm deep. The size of the hole you will need to cut into your worktop will be smaller than the overall hob size. The clips are fitted to the underside of the hob and tightened onto the worktop to hold the hob firm. The hob should also sit on some sealing strips to keep the joint between the underside of the hob and the top of the worktop, clean and waterproof. With the above in mind, any gas appliance needs to be connected up by a “competent person” e.g. a Gas Safe engineer that will perform a gas pressure test. The test in question tests the gas pressure before and after connecting up to ensure they are the same and if not, may indicate the presance of a leak.

There is no official standard size hob, and the number of rings can vary from 2 to 5 typically with will further affect the overall size of the hob. Deane Biermeier, licensed carpenter and contractor, as well as member of The Spruce's Home Improvement Review Board, cautions, "Grout sealers are available in several 'easy application' forms, such as spray-and-walk-away. Although it’s not a hard and fast rule, an overly easy application sometimes equates to less protection or shorter-lasting results. Your extensive tile and grouting projects deserve the small amount of extra work that applying a high-quality sealer can provide, so don't bypass a sealer that requires a little more effort to apply it if that also means bypassing superior protection." The spray-on sealer is water-based and non-corrosive, making it safe for granite, concrete, and most stone surfaces in addition to grout. The effective formula repels even tough stains from wine, oil, ink, and coffee, making it a great choice for kitchen counters and other dining surfaces. It's available in pint and quart spray bottles, as well as gallon jugs. I had my gas hob fitted today. The plumber was in a hurry and didn't get it square with the worktop and the foam was all over the place. Nice soldered joints though. So to answer your question, it does seem to be heat-proof, but how much it needs to be is questionable. i.e. follow the useless instructions, without any justification, and ignore my question about the unsuitability of the supplied sealing strip. Having said that, I cooked a three-pan meal on the hob last night and throughout the chassis was cold and the stainless cover only got warm (the oven is not in yet). At least on this hob there's very little coupling between the top cover and chassis/flange and plenty of air movement. I was curious how hot my silicone would get. Not very hot it seems. Worktops are stone which would help keep things cool. Tube grout sealers allow for precise control over the sealant as you work without need of a brush or rag. But since tubes usually don't contain a whole lot of product, they are best used for small projects or for touching up damaged spots. If you have grout, it's smart to keep a tube of sealant, like the Miracle Sealants Grout Sealer, on hand for spot repairs when needed. This helps to keep the grout intact over time. Let the sealer dry for the time recommended by the manufacturer. This is typically anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

5 Metre Sealing Foam Strip for Cooker Hobs or Kitchen Sinks

Essentially this is all common sense; you want it away from any draughts that might blow out the flame leaving gas flowing into your kitchen. I lifted the chassis enough to remove all the foam, so the flange would sit hard on the worktop. The cover then sat nicely flush on the worktop. I tightened the clamps, removed the cover and ran a small bead of silicone along the edge of the flange, then wiped most of it away. So there's a small wedge of silicone sealing the flange to the worktop but nothing that would prevent the hob being removed. Even if the silicone did offer some resistance, you would probably then remove the top cover to see what the problem was and run a knife around the flange. If sealing old grout, be sure it’s as clean as possible before resealing it. Otherwise, you’ll trap dirt and stains beneath the sealer.Sparks, I just tried burning a bit of the spare foam, and it seems to be heat-proof. I couldn't even get it to burn or melt properly by hold in directly in the gas flame. Not bad. I wouldn't have thought it would be all that difficult to prise polished metal away from sealant, though. Not so obviously, you will almost certainly need to have an electricity supply for your gas appliance. This also should be within 1.5m of your planned location. A gas hob is cut into a worktop and sits over a kitchen base unit like the one in the image above. Before it is cut you need to measure the hob itself, or use the manufacturers fitting instructions and/or template to make sure you know the exact opening size to cut. A very common misconception is that if there is an existing gas fitting that just requires “connecting to” then you are allowed to do this, this is not true.
