The first pattern was first issued to the Special Forces but as more troops arrived in country it was issued to more soldiers in different branches until the later pattern suits where developed. The US Army 1st pattern tropical trousers are easily identified by the exposed buttons and the poplin (non- ripstop) green fabric. I’ve shot it with two outfits here, and the one shown at top is a deliberately smart colour combination: navy knitted polo, white jeans, brown-suede loafers. The same colours would work just as well with more formal materials too, such as cream flannels, a blue oxford shirt, and a navy cashmere knit. Clearly the American military isn’t familiar with the concept of not fixing stuff that “ain’t broke.” The third and final version of this classic uniform was made from 1964 to 1989 and is by far the most common of the various OG-107 editions. That being said, neutral colors do a great job of hiding dirt and dust, which will be plenty on a drive or walk through the bush. White clothes aren’t going to stay white very long, and dark colors are believed to attract tsetse flies. Trust us; you do not want to become familiar with tsetse flies!
