Life on Cooper’s Farm (HD, 9:43) —Here’s where we discuss bringing Americana and the grounded nature of a farm to a sci-fi space movie by exploring the beauty of the farmhouse built in Calgary and its importance as a main character in the story. The score is amazing, and utterly immersive, and clearly Nolan doesn't particularly care if we miss these words as three cinema trips left me oblivious as to what was actually said until finally the Blu-ray's subtitles revealed the hidden unimportant - and arguably very important - words.

The surround mix eschews prominent use of discrete effects in favor of extending the soundstage via atmospherics/ambient related effects that envelope and revolve around the listening position. Both Blu Ray and 4K Ultra HD discs are included so naturally i have tested them both on my PS5 and LG OLED tv. However, I applaud Nolan here because he sought out to make something big, bold and ambitious and by golly he succeeded, but there is one man’s name shrouded in the shadows here that needs to be thrusted into the spotlight and rightfully recognized for the credit he deserves. Here we get to explore the concepts, process and recording of Hans Zimmer’s unforgettable organ score. Thinking of being separated from my son by millions of light years conjures up within me an eternal sort of dread. However, the real accomplishment in this production is Nolan incorporating real science into a relatively straightforward plot and successfully making the whole thing impressively entertaining, littered with spectacular, marvelous visuals that effectively leave an impression.

Top notch special effects, amazing video and audio quality along with some great performances by a very talented cast. Honestly, I think that’s why it took a couple more viewings for me to truly bask in the awesomeness that Interstellar can be if you let it in and not dismiss it simply because you didn’t understand it the first time. Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey stars as ex-pilot-turned-farmer Cooper, who must leave his family and a foundering Earth behind to lead an expedition traveling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars. If you’re a fan of Interstellar and are set up for Ultra HD Blu-ray, this is a must have for your collection. Whether it be the countdown to take-off as Coop is driving away from the farm, or - much more importantly - Michael Caine's pivotal revelations, both of which are completely smothered by the overwhelming score.
