I also added a very small screw to the threaded section of the pliers, son I can attach de sharpened punch. Additionally, since this is a military-themed tool, I sliced open an MRE bag with the blade, which obviously worked very well. The punch: I sharpen the punch, and create a new 3d printed part that have more space, I have some ideas for additions to the 8 32 thread part. Of course if you are not using the holster and have it clipped onto something, using this lock ensures the MUT handles stay closed. An important thing to note here is the position of my little finger, and how it lines up with the cutter notch next to the hammer.

Can you tell me how to take apart the side tan insert, the one with the slot for the additional bit? You could use a couple of washers or something else to fill the space the knife blade occupied, so you don’t need to have the accessory kit to do this conversion (but you do need to add a spacer of some sort). There is a step in the cutter edges that allows the cutter to grip and hold tougher wires that might slip forwards and keep them as close to the pivot as possible (for the best leverage), making the cut much easier. Unfortunately, despite the well designed sheath, the fact that the sight adjustment wrench is a separate item means it can more easily be lost. Located at the opposite end of the MUT to the hammer face, one of the main folding tools is a 1/8″ firearm disassembly punch. This warranty does not cover abuse, alteration, theft, loss, or unauthorized and/or unreasonable use of your Leatherman product. From head to toe, we’ve got the traditional Leatherman pliers, since the vast majority of their tools are centered around pliers.

However, I found this screw bit to be very sticky, and at one point it required me to pull the installed bit out with a pair of pliers, which is a very bad sign if the MUT is going to be your pair of pliers in the field. Still a useful feature, as a brush can be directly fitted and used to scrub areas round the breech and into the chamber, and that in itself is worth it. The pliers are still stiff and functional, which in years past, has been my greatest pet peeve of multi-tools from pretty much every manufacturer. Here the MUT has shaped and assembled the pilot/cockpit of an X-wing fighter – pretty fiddly job, but the whole thing came together as well as it could. However, this left a blackish residue on the tray that the tool lay in, and required me to wipe the tool down thoroughly to avoid getting whatever oil this was on the rest of me. Perhaps more intended for use once the MUT has seen some wear and the pivots are no longer as tight, there is a handle-lock included in the MUT. A removable clip which allows the user to wear their multi-tool attached to a pocket or belt loop without the use of a sheath. Please Note: This is a visual representation and the product and font size are approximations, and the preview may vary depending on your computer settings. All my multi-part rods are based on the handle having the first rod section permanently attached to it.

The scraper’s nail-nick works perfectly for this, so long as you line it up properly (as shown here). The Leatherman MUT is not only a practical tool but can also maintain military gear by utilizing a bronze carbon scraper, disassembly punch and bolt override tool. Inside the white plastic insert is the tool itself, the included MOLLE pouch, and the ⅜-inch socket along with the front sight adjustment tool. I am not a member of the armed forces and cannot comment on its use beyond a cutting tool or field/hunting knife.A great deal of thought has been put into the MUT and another aspect that shows this is the use of bronze for the carbon scraper. I don’t know what you want me to say, it screwed screws, but the carbide bits present a bit of a problem, since they’re harder than most screws and will likely strip them if you apply too much pressure. The bit-kit has two strips of bits that fit the MUT’s bit holder and the accessory kit has a bag of several parts for the MUT.
